How to Build a Calming Bedtime Ritual

A simple, repeatable wind-down routine can help you let go of the day and ease into better sleep — no apps or willpower required.

A good night rarely starts at bedtime. It starts with the hour before.

When you give your body a predictable wind-down, it learns to recognize the signal that the day is done. Over time, the ritual itself becomes the cue to soften.

**Start small.** Pick two anchors — one action at the same time each night, and one sensation you associate with resting. Dim the lights. Put the phone in another room. Let the room cool.

**Keep it repeatable.** The power is in the pattern, not the ingredients. The same three steps, in the same order, for two weeks is worth more than the "perfect" routine you only do once.

**Make it gentle.** This is not another task to optimize. Slow stretches, warm water, slow breathing — anything that asks less of you, not more.

The goal is not to force sleep. The goal is to stop resisting it. When you stop bracing against the day, sleep has room to arrive on its own.
